Rainbow Drops
This is how rainbow / mythic drops work. Named boss-chest pieces are on Boss Lair Rainbows. Which shared-pool names can show at your level is on Rainbow Level Bands. Names that only come from the Well are on Well-Only Rainbows. Holiday pack names and the snowman hats are on Holiday Rainbows. Names that no longer drop are on Discontinued Rainbows.
Stephen posted the first public numbers on the old boards for build 110, solo vs a boss on Normal. Those odds were 1 in 300 per boss pass below 90 and 1 in 100 at 90, with chests at 1 in 500 / 1 in 250. Later builds tightened the boss table. The numbers below are the current ones. Solo Normal is still the worst case. Difficulty and the loot modifier on the monster tooltip push it up.

Boss Drops
Most bosses roll the same shared mythic table three times.
Each pass is 1 in 200 below level 90, and 1 in 75 at 90 and up. Three passes means you are looking at about 1 in 67 for at least one mythic below 90, and about 1 in 25 at 90.
That table is the shared pile. Sissirat and Manglefeet are rolling the same names, filtered by level band.
Boss Treasure Chests
The chest after the fight has two mythic chances.
The ordinary chest table is 1 in 500 below 90 and 1 in 250 at 90. That is still the shared pile.
From Algernon on, the same chest also has a special about 1 in 180 for a named piece from that lair. Rattle Tooth has no boss chest. The named lists are on Boss Lair Rainbows.
HDoL Bosses
Bosses in the Horrific Dungeon of Legend and other elite areas still roll the shared pile three times, just hotter: 1 in 100 below 90, 1 in 60 at 90. They do not have their own unique rainbow names.
What can roll
A mythic will not appear as a quality before 15. After that:
- Unbanded older names (most old plate, leather, chain, scale, crystal, and a pile of weapons) can show from 15.
- Later named pieces sit on 35 / 55 / 75 / 95 bands.
- The dedicated fighter class set (Gosh's Shock and friends) does not enter the shared pool until 35.
- Lair-chest uniques stay on that chest and the Wishing Well.
Only 5% of mythics that drop can be used by non-members. That is a use rule, not a drop rule. It is on Items.
Loot modifier
The 1-in-N numbers above are solo Normal. The loot percent on the monster tooltip scales them. Divide the 1-in-N by (loot percent / 100).
Five players on Insane is the usual farm. The popup says +1150%. That is added to the base 100%, so you are at 1250% loot, not 1150%. The table is on Difficulty.
At 1250% loot:
- Boss corpse, below 90: about 1 in 16 per pass (three passes).
- Boss corpse, 90+: about 1 in 6 per pass (three passes).
- Ordinary boss-chest mythic: about 1 in 40 below 90, 1 in 20 at 90.
- Named lair-chest special: about 1 in 14 for some name from that lair's list.
- HDoL corpse: about 1 in 8 below 90, about 1 in 5 at 90, still three passes.
If that lair list has three names, any one name — the Folding Chair of the Mangled Foot, say — is about 1 in 43 on the chest. The chest still only spits one named piece when it hits. Who bags it is party loot.
The Well does not use dungeon loot percent. That is a different roll. The table is under Wishing Well below.
Worked examples, party split, and under-level groups are on Boss-Exclusive Rainbow Farming.
Wishing Well
Paid toss: two items. First toss: one item, free. No loot percent.
- Shared rainbow pile: 1 in 125 per item.
- Well-specific pile (pirate, ears, Charge!, NC Hammer, named lair pieces, and junk): 1 in 20 per item. That is the pile, not one name.
- Shared purple pile: 1 in 3 per item.
- Two items on a paid toss is about 1 in 10 to see the Well-specific pile at least once, and about 1 in 63 to see a shared-pile rainbow at least once.
The names are on Wishing Well and Well-Only Rainbows. Holiday pack rolls (1 in 10 purple / 1 in 200 rainbow, only when that look is on) are on Holiday Rainbows. The long writeup — including why your level changes which names can show — is Wishing Well Guide.
Summary
Solo Normal is the stingy case. Below 90 a boss kill is about 1 in 67 to see some mythic on the corpse. At 90 it is about 1 in 25. The chest adds a slower shared roll and, in later lairs, a better shot at that boss's named list. Five on Insane is the hot case: about 1 in 14 to see a named lair piece on the chest, and the corpse shared pile is a lot less stingy than solo Normal.
