For a solo mage, Vergrim and his champions can be hard to kill at first glance. The champions rush and mob you at close range while Vergrim sits back and leisurely bequeaths you with diabolical doses of divine death. On top of that, Vergrim summons infinite hoards of Seer Brood which will explode once hit unless you dispatch them quickly. It only takes one hit to set them off.
However, if you use their tactics against them, it will be a very quick and painless fight. Simply pull them into a corner and singe them with Crispy Critters. The key is the build. It's all about INT, Mana and Divine Resistance.

Skills
 Crispy Critters This is your primay attack skill. The enemies just sit in the flames as if basking in some divine light.

 Divine Ward Excellent for resisting most (if not all) of Vergrim's attacks.

 Divine Resistance Good Skill, but doesn't last long enough. It's only value is to reduce the pots that you use.
|
 Pyromania Just to kick it up a notch.
|
 Blue Screen of Life Good to help reduce health damage. Can be used if your a BSOL mage.
|
 Thickheadedness can help you resist knockdown from explosions or possibly from Holy Roller and Butcher) that Vergrim's Champions use. (Not Necessary)
|
 Retribution Just because it's fun to mess with the melee mobs. (Not necessary)

Equipment
- INT GEAR!!! Intelligence brings you a few benefits. It allows for Crispy Critters to do whopping amounts of damage. It adds to your Mana pool. If you're using Blue Screen of Life, it allows you to soak up more damage. Lastly, using Mana Potions becomes more valuable with a larger mana pool. WARNING! If you don't have enough END you'll end up getting one or two shotted by Vergrim et al. Have at least 3k HP (@ lvl ~30).
- Divine Resistance gear will help you withstand Vergrim's main attack. You'll find at a certain point, you'll get no damage from Vergrim at all, just a bunch of resist messages. Coincidentally, since the champions are melee fighters, most of the damage you'll have to withstand will come from them as they try to hit you. They don't hit fast enough to do any serious damage though.
Strategy / Usage
- If you're a BSOL mage, then activate Blue Screen of Life while running up to Vergrim and crew.
- Get their attention so that they follow you. Set them on fire if you like. Don't spend too much time getting their attention. Interpretive dance and gang signs only piss them off.
- Now, go find a good corner that will guarantee that all targets will be in the cone of Crispy Critters. The entrance corner works great for this since it allows you to zone if you need to.
- FIRE AWAY with Crispy Critters. This part is Critical! Make sure your flame from Crispy Critters is actually hitting Vergrim. Using the Options to show damage as well as hovering your mouse over Vergrim you can see if you're doing damage. If you're not doing damage to Vergrim, then you have to move a bit to get Vergrim to move into a better spot. The corners are best since if you get knocked back or knocked down, you're not going anywhere.
- Use Mana Potions and Health Potions as necessary.
- After they're all dead, pick up your loot. Don't forget the chests after the Boss Gate. So far, I've gotten a few Rainbow Drops. And with a turnaround time of under 4 minutes to run the zone, kill the boss and sell the loot this becomes very lucrative.
- Rinse and repeat as necessary.
- Profit!
Advantages
- You can solo Vergrim on Insane Difficulty. At this time (lvl 35-38) I can solo Vergrim in under 80 seconds (the time it takes for Pyromania to recharge.
Disadvantages
- Not challenging at all. Best for pure INT mages. Less effective with builds spread more evenly. Could take a while to get the perfect blend of bonuses on equipment.
