Vergrim Killer Mage

From Townstons
Vergrim

Boss of:  Vergrim's Vexation
Spells:
  • Divine Bolt
  • Summon Seer Brood
  • Seer Brood Sacrifice
  • Buff Guards
Fire Resist:  Good
Ice Resist:  No
Shadow Resist:  Low
Poison Resist:  Good
Divine Resist:  No

Vergrim is very hard for a solo Mage to kill. He is protected by two Blademasters, Rattle Tooth's DJ and Rattle Toe's Personal Masseur. Ranged attacks will often hit them instead of Vergrim. Vergrim moves away from you to throw Divine bolts, and an area attack will often get the Blademasters instead of him too. My Pyromancer kept getting toasted by Vergrim, so I worked out a build for a Shadow Mage that takes advantage of the closeness of his protectors instead of suffering from them.

Skills

Image:Divine-resistance.jpg Divine Resistance This is vitallly necessary, at the max level you can get, as Vergrim's main attack is a Divine bolt.
Image:Shadow-lightning.jpg Shadow Lightning will be your principal offensive attack. It will do lots of damage to Vergrim, whose shadow resistance is weak, and jump to his Blademasters too.
Image:Dark-wizardry.jpg Dark Wizardry really upgrades your Shadow Lightning damage. It is vitally necessary.
Image:Improved-shadow-lightning.jpg Improved Shadow Lightning This just kicks up the damage but should be in your Skill tray as a Passive.
Image:Ice-bolt.jpg Ice Bolt can be fired rapidly while Shadow Lightning is cooling down. See Two Button Mage.
Image:Ring-of-fire.jpg Ring of Fire Not as useful as the others, but when you catch Vergrim near the Blademasters you can blast this one off and try to catch all three.

Strategy / Usage

  • Before the fight activate Divine Resistance and Dark Wizardry. Get as close to Vergrim as you can before activating them. BE PREPARED.
  • Then run into the battle. Ignore the blademasters and keep pressing Vergrim with Shadow Lightning. He will try to move away from you. While he is moving away from you, he can't attack you! Usually he will be near enough to his minions for the Lightning to jump to them. Forget about those little broodlings. Probably the lightning will get them before you even notice them. Go for the big guy!
  • Keep pouring down the Health and Mana potions. If you double hit the space bar you will gain Health faster than you lose it. Sure, it is expensive but you need it!
  • When Vergrim is finally dead, there is a very good chance that his Blademasters have been blasted by Lightning jumping, without you even paying attention to them. If not, keep after them with Shadow Lightning or Ring of Fire.
  • Start gathering Loot. When you are a Member, its suggested to pick up the purples and a possible rainbow, then start filling your inventory with yellows. Pick up the high stacks of gold, and a possible Kings Coin. Then move to chests, and reset.
  • Then go on the world channel and brag!

Advantages

  • You are able to solo Vergrim even as a mage. There is no need for a group.
  • A mage still has a tough time with Vergrim. This method works most of the time.

Disadvantages

  • Do not be afraid to use lots of potions. You do need a lot of gold to get the potions. Generally you will get enough in gold and yellow items to pay the cost of the potions.
