White Paladin

A Paladin is basically a pure fighter with Divine skills. It can be a very effective build and is fun to play. Essentially the idea of this build is to get rid of the "Barbarian" skills Butcher and Cleave, and replace them with Divine skills. It takes a bit of time to acquire all the Divine skills, but by Level 20 you will have a fearsome build.

Skills

Image:Gym-freak.jpg Gym Freak is the standard fighter Passive skill. Image:Way-of-the-roo.jpg Way of the Roo is the other fighter Passive.
image:Righteous-stomp.jpg Righteous Stomp is a beginning Divine skill. image:Soul-rend.jpg Soul Rend is the basic Divine damage skill at L5.
Image:Fear-of-gosh.jpg Fear of Gosh can be useful against groups of fodder at L14. image:Holy-roller.jpg Holy Roller is a great Divine damage skill at L20.
Image:Divine-ascendancy.jpg Divine Ascendancy is the buff to all your Divine attacks at L12. image:1h-swivel-arm-action.jpg Swivel Arm Action 1H or 2H is a useful buff at L5.
image:Shadow-lightning.jpg Shadow Lightning makes up for the lack of a Divine AoE skill at L3. image:I'm Rubber You're Screwed.jpg I'm Rubber, You're Screwed works very well if you use a shield at L25.
Image:Poison-resistance.jpg Resistances can be added as needed. Image:Bling-gnome.jpg Bling Gnome rounds out the package for members.

At higher levels, you can add:

image:My-flaming-buddy.jpg My Flaming Buddy is not a Divine skill, but it works very well
for a Paladin once you reach Level 50.
image:Ray-of-gosh.jpg Ray of Gosh is great once you are at Level 45.

Obviously, there are more Divine skills than you can fit in your skills tray at one time. Part of the fun of playing this build is adjusting the skills to suit your current situation.

Equipment

Obviously, a Paladin COULD choose any type of fighter armor. However, prompted by vanity and a sense of appropriateness, I chose to wear Ornate Plate at low levels.

Visiting the Amazon frequently allowed me to accumulate a beautiful set of Sunstone armor and by Level 50 I was clad as a shining Paladin! Most Unique Sunstone pieces include a +Divine damage so it is perfect for a Paladin. Finding Jewelry with +Divine is harder but it is available.
Reliance is a Mythic weapon that looks great for a Paladin and gives a lot of +Divine. There is also a Unique version.
Wrath is another great Mythic weapon for a Paladin. Soul Sword is the Unique version.

Strategy/Tactics

The Paladin is a very versatile build. The various Divine skills are acquired gradually so you can experiment with one and then move on to the next. Righteous Stomp, the starting skill, is very useful for the Whisker Broodlings in Dew Valley Forest. Then, just as you need it for the Whisker Blademasters and Dew Valley Rattle Tooth you can get Soul Rend. Fear of Gosh is next and can be a difficult skill to learn to use properly, but very effective. When you get Holy Roller at L20 you are ready to function as a full fledged Paladin.

A group of mobs that includes some big guys is effectively dealt with by first rushing the biggest with Holy Roller and then hitting him with Soul Rend. Fodder can be trashed with Fear of Gosh followed by Righteous Stomp. Picking the right skills and arranging them properly on your buttons is a challenge and adds interest to the build.

Advantages

  • By concentrating on Divine skills, you make Divine Ascendency a principal asset and buff up almost everything you do.
  • The Paladin plays very much like a standard Tank and can be an effective "meat shield" in groups.

Disadvantages

  • You have to spread points into INT which can slightly limit your STR and AGI. Achieving a good balance is critical.
  • If you allow vanity to rule, the Ornate Plate does not have as high a DEF as Crystal or Amethyst Plate. However it has some very nice bonuses available.

How do you know if you have enough endurance as a fighter?!

  • An easy equation that helps with all classes is this, (level/100)*24000. This gives you a final number that is one of the most accurate ways of telling you if you have enough endurance. But then, it depends on you're build.. what skills you use.. etc.

Say I was a level 30 fighter. I have only 7000 health. Using the equation - (30/100)*24000 - I get a total of 7200. This means the suggested amount of health I should have is 7200. And I have 7000, so I am okay for how much I have. Then again, this is only a suggested amount, and you can just use it as a basis for everything else.

  • Note!: This formula does not apply to BSoL mages! As they don't need much health, as they rely on a good supply of mana to keep them going.
